Emily’s Spiced Apple Cider

Chef Emily Ellyn’s rad way to turn your ordinary apple cider into a festive beverage to be enjoyed with family or at your next holiday event.

Prep Time:  10 minutes

Cook Time:  20 minutes

Yield:  2 quarts

Ingredients

  • 2 quarts apple cider
  • ¼ cup firmly packed light-brown sugar
  • 6 whole cinnamon sticks
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • ½ teaspoon ground allspice
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cloves
  • ¼ teaspoon Freshly grated nutmeg
  • 1 orange sliced
  • pinch salt
  • 10 cinnamon sticks, for garnish

Directions

In a medium saucepan, whisk together cider, sugar, spices, orange, and salt. Bring to a simmer over medium-low heat. Remove from heat.

Strain into a pitcher; discard solids. Serve in mugs, garnished with cinnamon sticks.

Pumpkin Spiced and Spiked Cider:

In a large pot, mix together 1 cup pumpkin puree, 3 cups apple cider. Bring mixture to a boil then reduce heat to low and simmer for at least 20 minutes.

Strain the mixture through a mesh strainer to remove clumps and cinnamon stick. Add rum and mix. Serve warm.
