Poisoned Apple Bourbon Smash

There are dozens of great drinks in the whiskey smash cocktail canon, but this remix will be a “graveyard smash” at your Halloween party! Shake up this cocktail and set the mood for your spooktacular festivities.

Prep Time: 4 minutes

Yield: 1; 8-ounce cocktail

Serves: 1

Glassware: Rocks Glass, Wine Glass, Tulip




  • ½ lemon
  • 4 mint or lemon balm leaves
  • 2 ½ ounces Crown Royal Apple
  • ¾ ounce ‘Poison Apple’ spiced simple syrup, see recipe below


  • Mint or lemon balm sprig
  • Apple slices
  • ½ teaspoon confectioner’s sugar, if desired


Muddle the lemon in a shaker with mint or lemon balm leaves and then top with ice.

Pour over Crown Royal Apple, simple syrup, mint leaves, and ice. Shake until the shaker is frosty and the drink is well-chilled.

Strain into a glass over fresh crushed ice.

Garnish with a mint sprig and slice of apple. Sprinkle the drink with confectioner’s sugar if desired.

“Poison Apple” Spiced Simple Syrup: Heat 1 cup brown sugar and 1 cup water together in a saucepan. Whisk in 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon, ½ teaspoon ground ginger, ¼ teaspoon cardamom, and ¼ teaspoon dried chili powder. Heat until dissolved. Cool and use as desired.
