Garlic Honey Chicken Wings with Blue Cheese Sauce

Fry, bake, or grill these amped-up BBQ chicken wings coated in a sweet ‘n tangy garlic honey sauce and served with blue cheese sauce.  They come out crispy, tender, and smothered – just how you like them! The perfect game day appetizer or weeknight dinner served with coleslaw and fixings!

Ingredients

Wings:

  • 3 lbs whole wings (12-14 wings), separate flat and drumette
  • Vegetable oil or peanut oil, for frying
  • 1 tablespoons coarse salt, for wings
  • 1 tablespoons freshly ground black pepper, for wings

Garlic Honey Wing Sauce:

  • 3 ounces hot chili peppers (for hot, use Thai red chili; for mild, use Serrano peppers)
  • 6 cloves chopped garlic
  • 1 cup soy sauce
  • 1 cup honey
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ½ cup water
  • ¼ cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoons white vinegar, or substitute red wine vinegar
  • 2 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 (5-ounce) package Frigo® Crumbled Blue Cheese

Blue Cheese Dipping Sauce:

  • 1 (5-ounce) package Frigo® Crumbled Blue Cheese
  • ¾ cup sour cream
  • ¼ cup whole milk
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons onion powder
  • 1 lemon juice and zest, optional
  • 2 teaspoons fresh dill, minced, optional

Directions

Heat a deep-fryer or large saucepan filled with oil to 375°F.

Make the Blue Cheese Dipping Sauce. In a food processor or high powered blender fitted with a blade,* pulse together Frigo® Crumbled Blue Cheese, sour cream, whole milk, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt (at this time add lemon and dill if including) until smooth. Cover and refrigerate until ready to serve. *Alternatively, mix in a medium bowl with a rubber spatula until smooth.

Rinse wings in cold water and pat dry with paper towels. In a large bowl, toss together with salt and black pepper.

Fry chicken wings until crisp, no longer pink at the bone, and the juices run clear, 9 to 15 minutes.

Meanwhile, make Honey Garlic Wing Sauce by pulsing chili peppers and garlic cloves in a food processor or blender fitted with a blade. Scrape into a small saucepan with soy sauce, honey, sugar, water, ketchup, vinegar, sesame oil, cornstarch, and salt and bring to a boil. Turn heat to low and simmer until wings are ready.

When wings are done, shake off excess oil and transfer to a large bowl. Pour Garlic Honey Sauce over them and carefully sauce to evenly coat. Finish by sprinkling with Frigo® Crumbled Blue Cheese.

Transfer to a large plate and serve alongside Blue Cheese Dipping Sauce.

Bake:
Heat the oven to 450°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment or foil and set aside.

Meanwhile, make Garlic Honey Wing Sauce and Blue Cheese Dipping Sauce.

Place the chicken wings (do not separate the flat and drumette) in a large bowl, coat with Garlic Honey Wing Sauce, bake for 20 minutes, flip, and bake an additional 20 minutes until crispy and golden brown. Top with Frigo® Crumbled Blue Cheese and serve with Blue Cheese Dipping Sauce.

Grill:
Heat the grill to high.

Meanwhile, make Garlic Honey Wing Sauce and Blue Cheese Dipping Sauce.

Place the chicken wings (do not separate the flat and drumette) and in a large bowl and season with salt and black pepper.

Grill for 20 minutes, flip, and grill an additional 20 minutes until crispy and golden brown. Toss in Garlic Honey Wing Sauce until coated and top with Frigo® Crumbled Blue Cheese. Serve with Blue Cheese Dipping Sauce.
