Spiced Cantaloupe Horchata | Chef Driven Mocktails

This Cantelope Horchata is a remix of Mexican Horchata.  This non-alcoholic refreshment warms in flavors with Chinese 5 Spice, lightens with a touch of honey and brightens with fresh mint.

Serves: 1

Glassware: Collins or Rocks glass




  • Seeds from 1 cantaloupe (about 1⁄2 cup)
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 teaspoons Chinese five spice
  • 1 tablespoon honey


  • Sprig of fresh mint, optional
  • Dried or freeze-dried cantaloupe, optional
  • Basil Fresh Origins Mini Herb Crystals ®, optional


In a blender, grind the seeds with Chinese five spice, honey, and 2 cups of water until as smooth as possible.

Pour mixture through a strainer into a pitcher. Stir well and add more honey to taste if desired.

Garnish with a sprig of mint or dried or freeze-dried melon. Serve chilled over ice.

Note: The horchata may thicken up if held in the refrigerator overnight. Adjust thickness by blending in more water.
