Rocket Man Margarita Cocktail

Tang and tamarind is an unlikely pairing for a margarita. Chef Emily Ellyn’s Rocket Man Margarita’s ‘Rocket Fuel’ is sweet, tart, plummy, and slightly spicy and when paired with smokey mezcal will enliven your senses – sending them to the moon!

Prep Time:  4 minutes

Yield:  8-ounce cocktail

Glassware:  Rocks Glass, Margarita Glass

Ingredients

Margarita:

  • 2 ounces Mezcal Añejo
  • 1 ounce Rocket Fuel Syrup, see recipe below
  • ½ - 1 ounce fresh lime juice
  • ½ ounce fresh orange juice

Garnish:

  • Banderilla Tama-Roca Tamarindo Mexican Candy Sticks dusted in Tang
  • Fresh Lime
  • Fresh Origins’ Herb Crystals® Habanero

Directions

Rim the cocktail glass by running a wedge of lime along the rim of the glass.

Pour a ¼ cup Fresh Origins’ Herb Crystals® Habanero onto a plate.

Roll the edges of the glass on the plate so the mixture adheres, then set the glass aside.

Create the cocktail by filling a cocktail shaker with ice. Pour in the mezcal, Rocket Fuel, fresh lime, and fresh orange juice.  Shake until chilled and thoroughly mixed and then strain into rimmed glass.

Garnish with a Banderilla Tama-Roca Tamarindo Mexican Candy Stick dusted in Tang!


Tangy Tamarind Syrup: 
Heat 1 cup brown sugar and 1 cup water together in a saucepot and whisk in 2 tablespoons Tang, 1 tablespoon Tamarindo Aqua Fresca Powder, and ½ teaspoon dried chili powder.  Heat until dissolved. Cool and use as desire.
